Volunteer Team Recovers Missing Shipwreck Diver from Deep Lake Michigan Waters
A volunteer underwater search and recovery organisation has recovered the body of a scuba diver who went missing while diving a shipwreck in Lake Michigan, following a challenging operation in deep water around 20 miles offshore.
Bruce’s Legacy Search & Recovery, a Wisconsin based nonprofit organisation specialising in underwater recovery operations, was called to assist after the diver went missing on September 4, 2026.
The recovery team identified the diver in its public statement only as Michael.
Following what the organisation described as a very difficult search, the team located and recovered him from approximately 160 feet, or 49 metres, of water and returned him to his family waiting on shore.
