Italian Diver, 48, Dies After Falling Ill During Dive off Medulin, Croatia
A 48 year old Italian diver has died after becoming unwell during a dive off Medulin, on Croatia’s Istrian coast, according to local police.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, in the waters around Medulin. Police in Pula said they received a report at approximately 10:30 a.m. that the diver had become unwell while diving at a depth of more than 20 metres.
The man was recovered from the water and transported by boat to Uvala Polje.
Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate him, but the efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
The Istrian Police Administration said an autopsy has been ordered. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the death in cooperation with the competent state prosecutor’s office.
Authorities have not released further information about what happened underwater before the diver became unwell, and no official cause of death has yet been announced.
The diver’s identity has not been publicly released.
