Diver Revived After Losing Pulse During Boat Dive at Taiwan’s Green Island
A 51 year old diver was successfully resuscitated after losing consciousness and showing no signs of life during a boat diving trip at Green Island, Taiwan, on September 8.
According to Taiwan’s Central News Agency, citing the Taitung County Fire Department, the man reportedly inhaled water during the dive before becoming unconscious and stopping breathing.
Emergency services were alerted at approximately 1:48 p.m. after the diver was brought to Nanliao Harbor on Green Island. Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene, where the man was found in out of hospital cardiac arrest.
Rescuers immediately began emergency treatment before transferring him to the Green Island Health Center for further resuscitation.
The diver subsequently regained signs of life, including breathing and a heartbeat. Authorities then arranged an air evacuation from Green Island to Taiwan’s main island for further medical treatment.
Officials have not publicly confirmed what caused the diver to inhale water or what happened underwater before he lost consciousness.
The Taitung County Fire Department said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
No further information about the diver’s current medical condition had been publicly confirmed at the time of publication.
