80 Year Old Diver Dies After Medical Emergency Off New Jersey Coast
An 80 year old diver has died after surfacing unresponsive during a dive off Long Beach Island, New Jersey, on Friday, September 4.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a distress call at approximately 10:48 a.m. from the Dina Dee II, a commercial dive charter operating from Barnegat Light.
The crew reported a critical medical emergency involving a diver who had surfaced unresponsive and immediately began CPR.
The Coast Guard dispatched a 47 foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Barnegat Light to assist. Coast Guard personnel met the Dina Dee II at sea and escorted the vessel back to Lighthouse Marina, where emergency medical personnel were waiting.
Despite the emergency response and CPR efforts, the diver was pronounced dead at the marina.
