Turkish Tourist Arrested After Jet Ski Allegedly Strikes Diver in Montenegro

Police in Budva, Montenegro, have detained a 34-year-old Turkish tourist suspected of hitting a diver with a jet ski near Cape Zavala on the morning of July 3.

The victim, a 41-year-old diver from Podgorica, was struck in the water. Police say the jet ski operator left the scene afterward, heading toward Yaz Beach. Officers later identified and detained the suspect.

The diver received medical treatment and has since been released to recover at home. Authorities say the suspect will be brought before a prosecutor, along with the case file, within the legal time limit.

Local diving advocates reacted quickly to the news. The Open Water Society, a Montenegrin diving club, called on authorities to act, warning that the sea should be a safe place for everyone. The group also urged swift identification of anyone involved in similar incidents and called for stronger enforcement to prevent them. Serbiantimes

The case adds to a string of jet ski and watercraft incidents reported along Montenegro’s Adriatic coast this summer, as tourist numbers rise and enforcement of no-dive-flag zones and speed limits comes under renewed scrutiny.

Editor’s note: This story is still developing. Montenegro’s Ministry of Interior has not yet released an official statement, and further details from the prosecutor’s office are expected. Recommend holding for updates before wide distribution, and confirming details against an official police statement if one becomes available.
