A 64-year-old woman died after a scuba dive near Catalina Island, according to authorities. The incident happened Saturday morning near Casino Point Underwater Park, a well-known dive site off the island.
The woman was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner as Carolyn Alvarez. Officials said she showed signs of distress while she was still in the water. A man who was diving with her helped bring her to shore. Witnesses called 911 and gave aid while they waited for emergency crews.
Paramedics arrived shortly after 10 a.m. and took Alvarez to a hospital, where she later died. The medical examiner’s office had not yet confirmed the cause of death at the time of the report.
